The new International Skeptics Forum is up and running. The original incarnation of the forum sprung from the JREF site a very long time ago. As we noted, earlier this year, the JREF board decided that the forum had expanded beyond the goals and resources of the organization. Rather than kill it, it was set free. It was and continues to be a vibrant, very active and highly controversial discussion area exploring skeptical topics, science, politics, religion, and topics far removed in all directions from any of that.
Huge thanks to David Steadson who stepped forward and said “I will take it” and Rick Adams of the JREF board who helped with transitioning. The move is now complete. If you were a former JREF forum member, your private information was removed in the jump to the new server and format for privacy purposes, but your login is still active. There is the opportunity to import your info. The structure remains similar to the previous.
So, if you are looking for a top-notch, well-moderated forum frequented by professionals, actual experts and stars-in-their-eyes hopefuls, check out the International Skeptics Forum. Best wishes to them.
By James Randi
What follows is a short essay I wrote for a local newspaper in New Jersey, in the early 60s. It therefore contains anachronisms, and deals with matters as they were at that time. That remarkable man, the subject I wrote about, would have been 100 years of age on October 21, 2014.
Editor's Note: This piece was original published in February 2005 after the airing of ABC News (U.S.) Primetime Live program in which Randi was invited to speak about self-proclaimed spiritual and psychic healer João Teixeira de Faria, also known as João de Deus, or John of God.
During the switch to the new website, some content was archived. Since John of God is STILL actively "healing" and promoting himself, and visiting Australia later this month, we wanted to remind you that this display has been around a very long time. There are things the public should know.
The following is a slightly edited version (some material no long applicable was removed).
