Episode 8: The Burzynski Clinic

The Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas has been performing experimental cancer treatments in clinical trials for several years now. But many doctors, scientists, and concerned members of the public have tough questions about the clinic. Shouldn’t expensive, cutting-edge cancer trials have to produce positive results in the medical literature to be allowed to continue? We talk to oncologist and science writer Dr. David Gorski about just what it is that Burzynski claims to do. And we check in with researcher and activist Bob Blaskiewicz, who shares the harrowing stories of some of Burzynski’s patients.

Episode 5: David McCarthy vs Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment (Part 2)

Part 2 of our conversation with David McCarthy, a former member of Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment. Ramtha is supposedly the spirit of a dead warrior from a prehistoric civilization who is “channeled” by J.Z. Knight. Knight has formed a cottage industry around Ramtha’s spiritual teachings, though McCarthy and others say this industry is really a cult. In this interview, McCarthy goes into more detail about his day-to-day activities at Knight’s school as well as the slow process of disengaging from this belief system that consumed his life.

Channeler J.Z. Knight claims to be a conduit for the spirit of an ancient warrior named Ramtha. Her followers flock to Washington state to attend Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment, where they can receive Ramtha’s wisdom and convene with with their fellow believers. But our guest David McCarthy says Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment is a cult. He left his family in New Zealand to join the school, and what he found there left him convinced that J.Z. Knight isn’t what she’s cracked up to be.

Episode 3: Bonnie vs Christian Science

Bonnie grew up a Christian Scientist. That means that instead of going to a doctor for illness or injury, her family employed the services of a faith healer. Later in life, Bonnie learned that this belief had terrible consequences for one family member in particular.
