Philosophical goodness at TAM 2013: Pigliucci, Haack, Boghossian and Blackford

9/25/2014

TAM 2013 had an excellent array of philosophers. Today, we bring you four outstanding talks that you will enjoy. Don't be put off by "philosophy" -you will get valuable insights out of the four featured speakers.

Try it, you may be surprised.
First off, Massimo Pigliucci tackles the demarcation problem: What is the difference between science and pseudoscience.

Susan Haack talks about being "too ready to believe", being "too ready to disbelieve" and proportioning your belief to the evidence. VERY important stuff. She's a gem!

Peter Boghossian gives an excellent talk on forthright speech and belief revision.

Russell Blackford tells us as a philosopher, he can offer us perspective. That he does.
Expand your views, have a good think...

We hope you enjoy these amaz!ng talks. More to come.

SWIFT is named after Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver's Travels. In the book, Gulliver encounters among other things a floating island inhabited by spaced-out scientists and philosophers who hardly deal with reality. Swift was among the first to launch well-designed critiques against the flummery - political, philosophical, and scientific - of his time, a tradition that we hope to maintain at The James Randi Foundation.
